The type of fat that babies store in order to regulate their body temperature may help adults lose weight as well. "Brown fat" burns calories when it revs up, while "white fat" from overeating stores calories. Three new studies on brown fat have found that it is still active in some adults--particularly women and younger adults. Now researchers say that if they can find a treatment that helps activate brown fat it could burn off the unhealthier white fat in adults who are overweight or obese.
