Turning off the tube can lead to weight loss, even if people aren't dieting, researchers say. That's because the activities that replace TV, such as housework, gardening, or organizing, burn more calories. Of the study participants, those whose televisions were outfitted with a device that turned off the set when they'd watched half of their normal weekly programming burned 244 more calories than they consumed every day. That could add up to almost 60 pounds per year of weight loss, experts say.
