Scientists have found that a supplement made from tomatoes may protect against heart disease and strokes when taken daily. The supplement--called Ateronon--contains an active ingredient from the Mediterranean diet, lycopene, which blocks the bad cholesterol that can clog the arteries. In a preliminary trial of 150 patients with heart disease, Ateronon reduced the oxidation of harmful fats in the blood to almost zero within eight weeks.
