Mediterranean diet trims the waistline and the family budget

The Mediterranean diet has been shown to help prevent heart woes and a host of other diseases, but experts say it may be out of reach for many people. Spanish researchers found that people who tried to adhere to a diet rich in vegetables, olive oil, fish, and nuts spent more money on food than those who ate a sugar and fat-laden Western style diet. The study's authors say that health professionals should be aware of this "economic barrier" when dispensing advice on what type of diet people should eat.   Read full story >
