FDA Rebukes Nestle for Labeling of Boost, Juicy Juice

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sent warning letters to foodmaker Nestle for misleading labeling on its Boost and Juicy Juice drink lines, saying the company is claiming the products have unapproved medicinal uses. In a December 3 letter, FDA officials said Nestles' claim that Boost drinks can treat "failure to thrive," "injury and trauma," and "chronic illnesses" are misleading to consumers. The FDA also warned Nestle for its claims on the Juicy Juice line that claim the drinks "help support brain development" in children younger than age two. The federal agency added that the juice's labeling may lead parents to believe the products are 100 percent juice, when they are not.
