Salmonella Scare Prompts Wide Recall of Dips, Soups, Packaged Foods

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a wide recall of packaged foods after finding traces of salmonella in a common ingredient. FDA officials found traces of Salmonella Tennessee in a much-used brand of a flavor enhancer known as hydrolyzed vegetable protein, which is used widely in processed foods. Some recalled foods include McCormick spices and gravy, Trader Joe's dressings, and Safeway brand snacks and snack mixes. Consumers can find a complete list of recalled products at FoodSafety.gov.
