Why Do My Ears Ring After I Have An Orgasm?

E-mail: I don't know if you've heard this before, but after orgasm - I'm a female - my ears ring. Sometimes it's painful and irritating.

What's the cause?

Dr. Dean: One thing it might be is fluid shifting in your middle ear, a change in pressure.

Also, you could just be hearing your pulse. We've all had the experience of lying down and hearing ssh, ssh, ssh as blood is pumped through the major arteries in our head.

If the ringing in your ears is new or increased, I suggest you see a physician, because a doctor just called in suggesting that your blood flow might be defective.

Normally, blood flows through little teeny, tiny capillaries, greatly reducing the pressure in our veins. The ringing in your ears could mean that blood is going directly from your high-pressure arterial side to the low-pressure venous side.
