Why Haven't You Said Much About The Dangers Of Power Lines?Posting Date: 07/12/2000 Original Broadcast date: April 7, 2000 Shawn: I haven't heard you say much about high voltage power lines and the health risks of living near them. advertisement Dr. Dean: That was a big worry that came and went. So far, no conclusive evidence has turned up in the studies that have been done to investigate possible links between power lines and birth defects, and between power lines and leukemia. In fact, in one major study that did hint at a link between power lines and cancer, a scientist has admitted to falsifying data. We have looked many times, in many places, in many different ways without objectively finding any connections between health and power lines. I don't happen to live near any power lines, but I'd have no problem with it. Maybe the extreme case of working day in and day out near huge, thousand volt lines carries a risk, but we have no proof of harm even then. Our biggest worry is that we have to find something else to worry about. Electricity is a luxury and there are people in the world who would love to have power lines. |
