Second Surgery Not Needed To Correct Post-Circumcision Adhesion

Posting Date: 08/03/2000

When an infant is circumcised, some skin can stick to the penis, which may result in a second surgical procedure that is entirely unnecessary.

I?m against circumcision to begin with and a new study shows it?s ridiculous to treat boys who have penile adhesion as a result of the procedure.

In fact, even intact boys can have penile adhesion and this study published in the Journal of Urology clearly shows that the condition will disappear over time if left alone.

Urologists at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation looked at 254 circumcised boys ranging from one month of age to 19 years and found that the incidence of penile adhesions decreases with patient age.

In other words, the adhesion breaks down naturally over time with penile growth and allows the foreskin to retract. The good news here is that physicians can put down their scalpels and leave this condition alone to heal on its own.
