Light Reflex In Infant's Eye Showed Rare CancerPosting Date: 01/19/1999 We've discussed quite a bit the red-eye reflex on this show, and have picked up some cases of serious eye cancer in kids. It seems there is an actress, Hunter Tylo that used to be on the TV show, Melrose Place. She won almost $5 million in a wrongful termination suit after she got fired in 1996 for becoming pregnant. When the child was four months old, she noticed a reflection in one eye, which prompted her to take the baby to an eye specialist. Well, it turns out the child had retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer, which is almost always fatal if there is no treatment. They had her right eye removed and did chemotherapy - and then the girl developed tumors in the other eye as well. A week later they say the tumors disappeared and they are crediting spiritual things for her cure. I do hope she is cured. In any case, remember it's out there, friends. If you see an unusual light reflex, go to a specialist. |
