Question from Jill: Can marijuana affect fertility? My husband and I smoke pot but we want to have children.

Dr. Dean: There are numerous studies on the effects of marijuana on reproduction. So far, they haven't come up with anything that is very negative.

There is evidence that smoking marijuana can reduce the sperm count in men, but lots of these men have successfully fathered children.

In women, there haven't been any indications that marijuana affects fertility.

I did see one study that showed that marijuana can depress the libido, or the desire to have sex.

One thing more I'd like to mention is that marijuana use by children is dangerous because it can change their habits and personalities, usually for the worse.

If you smoke marijuana around your children, how are you going to tell them not to smoke? This is something you should think about the next time you inhale.
