Symptoms

Symptoms include:

  • Difficult and painful swallowing
  • Low-grade fever
  • Mouth sores (oral lesions)

Signs and tests
  • Blood and urine culture
  • CMV antigenemia
  • Cold agglutinins
  • Culture of cells obtained from an esophageal brushing
  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with or without a biopsy
