Normal Values

Normal values range from 1.9 to 3.7 ng/mL/hour.

What abnormal results mean

Higher than normal levels may indicate:

  • Addison's disease
  • Cirrhosis
  • Dehydration
  • Hemorrhage (bleeding)
  • High blood pressure
  • Hypokalemia
  • Malignant hypertension
  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Renin-producing renal tumors
  • Renovascular hypertension

Lower than normal levels may indicate:

  • ADH therapy
  • Sodium-retaining steroid therapy
  • Sodium-sensitive high blood pressure
