Normal Values

Normally, there should be little or no fluid in the the abdominal space.


What abnormal results mean

An examination of abdominal fluid may show:

  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Damaged bowel
  • Heart disease
  • Infection
  • Kidney disease
  • Pancreatic disease
  • Tumor (cancerous or noncancerous)
