After 5 years of total and complete ED due to a condition known as Scleroderma, that was discovered in 2002 at age 48; I was ready to consider a penile prosthesis. August 22, 2007 was day and operation was smooth and I was back home the following day for a week of R & R before returning to work. No real pain or discomfort except the stubble of the pubic shave. The prosthesis works great and the erection can last as long as desired and even allowed for multiple orgasims! It is always ready when the mood strikes and there is no fear of again experiencing impotence.
The only slight negative is my perception of arrousal. With a normal erection arrousal causes the erection and the associated feeling of arrousal. With the prosthesis I miss that arrousal stage as the feeling of an erection firms up. The prothesis erection just pumps up and gets hard requiring no emotion or sense or arrousal. Sort of a disconnected feeling from the erection, like it is not a real part of my body. An erection can be obtained at any time and be totally lacking of any sexual feelings or desire and last for hours, until the pump is released. The act of obtaining an erection at times seems not much more emotional than eating a sandwich.
Don't get me wrong I am truly glad to have the prothesis and the opportunity to once again share sexual intercourse but the new experience and feeling's requires some adjustment.
