A substantial study has been terminated that involved testing the use of high doses of selenium, vitamin E and a placebo to see if it helped to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Apparently, selenium can actually increase the risk (high doses were used), and vitamin E can increase the risk of diabetes in these patients. Less worrisome is a daily multivitamin with much lower doses of selenium and vitamin E, but talk to your doctor about these results.
