Q: Starting out and need direction

I will be 47 years old in just a couple of weeks. My wife is 42 and already through menopause. In the last several months I have had an incredibly decreased sex drive to the point that I am just not that interested. I also have rarely had an erection during that time. When my wife and I tried to have intercourse last weekend I was unable to get an erection at all.

For some additional background information, I am a bit overweight and I have bipolar disorder for which I am on medication. My job is mostly at a desk on the computer or on the phone. I know I need more exercise for sure but I could really use some input and would love to chat with some other men who are going through this and to learn some of the things you have done that are helpful to you.

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

The fact that your sex drive decreased so rapidly makes me wonder whether there might be a hormonal issue? For a man of your age this wouldn't be untypical so, whilst I'm speculating, I think it would be worth having your testosterone levels checked - and maybe a general look over in case something else might be triggering the problem. If it is testosterone deficiency then a variety of treatment options exist (the patch being the easiest). If not, then at least you've ruled this out and can start investigating other possibilities.

I'd also recommend reading this article on the physical causes of erectile dysfunction to see if anything resonates with you.

I am 46 and suffered through a similar situation with my wife. We had some financial problems and I was consistently stressed. I could not afford, at the time, to see a doctor. I had read about herbal treatments and came across a product called Erectine. You don't need a prescription and I haven't felt any harmful side effect in the 5 months that I have taken it. I don't need it all the time. I only take it when I'm feeling stressed. Its all natural and definitely works for me. I do, however, recommend seeing a doctor if you can. You may have a different physical problem then I had.

Good Luck
