Mark - I think the answer depends on who you ask, how serious your ED is, your general health, and other lifestyle issues. Hopefully some of the men who have used the alternative medicines that you are considering will chime in. Otherwise, google the alternative product and look for testimonials and chat rooms that discuss the product. If you have ongoing health issues you should consult your physician before you take any of these products.
