LEVITRA Oral

Drug Interactions

Generic Name: VARDENAFIL - ORAL
Pronounced: (var-DEN-ah-fil)

LEVITRA Oral Interactions

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.

See also How To Use section for drug-food interactions.

This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious (possibly fatal) interactions may occur:

  • nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide)
  • nitroprusside (or any "nitric oxide donor" drugs)
  • recreational drugs called "poppers" containing amyl or butyl nitrite

If you are currently using any of these medications, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting vardenafil.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of:

  • alpha-blocker medication (e.g., doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin, or doses greater than 0.4 milligrams daily of tamsulosin)
  • other medications for impotence
  • drugs that affect certain liver enzymes (CYP 3A4 substrates, inhibitors and inducers, e.g., cimetidine, rifamycins, St. John's wort, certain anti-seizure drugs)
  • high blood pressure medicines

If you are taking ritonavir or nelfinavir, do not take more than a 2.5 milligrams dose of vardenafil in a 72 hour period. If you are taking indinavir or high doses (400 milligrams daily) of either ketoconazole or itraconazole, do not take more than a 2.5 milligrams dose of vardenafil per day. If you are taking erythromycin or low doses (200 milligrams daily) of either ketoconazole or itraconazole, do not take more than 5 milligrams dose of vardenafil per day. For more details contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Many drugs besides vardenafil may affect the heart rhythm (QT prolongation), including dofetilide, pimozide, amiodarone, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), sparfloxacin, among others. Therefore, before using vardenafil, report all medications you are currently using to your doctor or pharmacist.

This document does not contain all possible interactions. Therefore, before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all the products you use. Keep a list of all your medications with you, and share the list with your doctor and pharmacist.
