Rise And Shine Breakfast Combos

The following are quick and easy low-fat breakfast ideas that offer a combination of protein and carbohydrates. By adding a protein source to your morning meal you can prolong the feeling of satiety (or fullness). Plus you are rounding out your breakfast into a well balanced meal.

  • Fill a honeydew melon half with nonfat yogurt and sprinkle with sesame seeds.



  • Fill a papaya half with cottage cheese and serve with a bran muffin.



  • Fill a flour tortilla with cottage cheese and fresh fruit, and warm in the microwave.



  • Top an English muffin with one ounce of nonfat cheese and broil until bubbly. Serve with a glass of orange juice.



  • Toast a frozen whole-wheat waffle and top it with fat-free sour cream and fresh blueberries.



  • Fill a crepe with low-fat ricotta cheese and fruit.



  • Have ready-to-eat cereal with low-fat milk and fresh fruit.



  • Fill a tortilla with shredded carrots, zucchini, low-fat cheese and salsa.



  • Have a cup of vegetable soup with cheese and bread.



  • Mix fresh fruit into vanilla yogurt.



  • Blend fresh fruit and low-fat milk to make a smoothie.



  • Mix dried apricots with low-fat granola and milk.



  • Warm a low-fat bran muffin and serve with applesauce and yogurt.



  • The night before, mix oatmeal, raisins or chopped prunes and

    hot water. Cover and let stand overnight. Serve with warm milk and

    fruit. Makes a delicious molded "breakfast pudding."



  • Spread peanut butter on toast and add a sliced banana. Serve with orange juice.



  • Spread fat-free cream cheese on a whole-wheat bagel. Serve with orange juice and a bowl of sliced strawberries.



  • Have a slice of cheese with a McDonald's Apple Bran Muffin or Dunkin' Donuts bran muffin. Serve with orange juice.



  • Have a slice of vegetarian pizza. Serve with 100 percent fruit juice.
