I was diagnosed with HSV1 & 2, three months ago. I initially thought I had a yeast infection. My husband of 5 years gets cold sores, I caught it from him, amazing it took so long. The 1st outbreak was so bad, painful & lasted 4 weeks. I took Valtrex 2 mg/day and used creams & H-Balm. It went away but now for the last 4 weeks I've had tingling and itching over a wider area that is driving me nuts. I don't know if it's prodrome? Or if I'm only just containing an outbreak? Or is this typical? I'm also taking Lysine & vit C. I find the H-balm helps temporarily, I pour the stuff on constantly but it wears off. Avbreve Cream doesn't seem to do anything. Any suggestions? I've found it very hard emotionally too. The social stigma is the worst. I dread anyone finding out & hate when I have to fill in forms advising what medication and conditions I have. I've also not been interested in sex at all and have hateful feelings toward my husband even though it's not his fault. I thank god we already have two great kids - which now I feel I can't kiss on the lips or share a spoon/drink.

I had my first outbreak last Dec. (and Im 53).. and it was really bad. Actually, it lasted almost 3 months and I was on the meds. I tried the valtrex, but made me sick to my stomach, so I switched to Famivor..I take it 2x day. It is confusing to me also, that any tingling is the pre thing,,,but then it doesnt break out, which Im grateful for. I just know that over the past 10 months, and taking this 2x day has really helped. Youre not alone in feeling bad,,, but I have to say this, I am with a man who knows, and still wanted to be with me. I use condoms every single time, as I dont want to put him in any harm. Not liking that, but you do what you have to. So, it is possible to have a sex life after it all settles down, and your emotions do too.
