I have been having break outs since I was 16 years old. They would pop out 3-4 times a years. Now I'm 43 and the past few years are really bad. I have been to every doctor. My nurse practitioner said I need to take valtrex daily for about a year. I was taking 1 per day and I had an outbreak. So I have started taking 2 per day for the last few months. It does help. But I will feel it coming on and take 3 per day for a couple of days then back to 2. If I didn't take the meds I would have head pain eye and ear pain and my throat on one side feels sore l. The pain runs down my right side of my body. It would end in the stomach area I have had a swollen lymph node under my jaw area for years on and off. The past year my inner arm that is tender to the touch of my skin I noticed a small lump. and went away when my symtoms were gone. Know I feel that it is spreading down my nerves. My leg thigh area will hurt same time as everything else on my right side. It's traveling and getting worse. If I didn't have the meds I would be a mess. I still feel pain and weekness but no fever blisters. I would be very sick without swollen lymphs , teeth pain all pain on right side. I have it right know. My tongue feels swollen on the right side and head hurts and arm and leg, Can't take it anymore. well i'm going on and on sorry. I wish this would go away forever! Sherri D.
I'm curious what types of nontraditional treatments you tried. I assume you went off them because they were not working for you. I have used both Acyclovir and Valtrex with less than great results. Some months ago I decided to try a mineral based treatment called Resolve. It takes a little over two months to go through the course of treatment. I did experience some symptoms - blisters and a little pain - at different times during that period. But was also told that was to be expected. There's debate about this product on the web, but I have been asymptomatic since I completed the treatment. Have you had any experience with this drug?
hm, just wondering here.....it sounds like taking meds on a daily basis to suppress something that occurs once a month (albeit that it can last up to 10 days) and enduring some terrible side effects that lasts longer than 10 days, is not much of an alternative. I too suffer from herpes, and it comes around every month - funny thing, it never use to...before, maybe I'd get an unwelcome visit maybe once every year, then suddenly about 1 year ago, the little buggers started coming every month!!!! Possibly stress related as I had changed residence of country etc...but still....anyway, off topic. So, yes, what I wanted to ask/mention.....considering that for roughly only 10 days out of 30, ouch ouch ouch, compared to 30 days out of 30, pill popping and side effects. From your experience, could you please share more pro's and con's to help me, and maybe others like me, make a choice. Oh, and thanks ahead:-)
As a woman BORN with a Pimary Immune Deficiency, I take exception to your comment about being an "immuno-deficient freak." This is a difficult enough condition to live with, without unthinking comments being made. Yes, I am a herpes sufferer (along with multiple other even more significant diseases) who requires suppressive therapy.
Hi lajek,
I'm sorry you took offense to my comment. I was making light of my situation as a person with a very weak immune system, and I apologize if you are upset with the words I used. Perhaps I could have called myself an "oddity" or "anomaly" instead. Regardless, the meaning is the same and I was merely describing how I felt...which is a person with an unusual condition. I try to write raw reactions to how I've experienced living with herpes, and try not to get too wrapped up in semantics and censorship. I will take your comment into consideration when I write in the future, as I understand your perspective.
