I recently came to the upsetting conclusion that heterosexual women are at much greater risk when it comes to having sex than are heterosexual men. Not only is there the obvious risk of getting pregnant and the fact that women are more susceptible to contracting STDs than men (...

Enjoyed this post. Sorry about the immature boy...WOW! How old was he?? Anyway..from first hand experience I can tell you that HPV is no joke. Because eventhough the warts are painless, removing them are FAR from! It's probably one of the most degrading experiences of my life (well...second only to finding out I had herpes!). I am right now having a very hard time not being bitter towards the male species because it's so true..they just simply aren't affected like women are. And not only that but our society makes it OK for men to be more sexually active and carefree than women in the first place (what's the male version of a whore or a slut? there really isn't a comparison). They don't deal with the stigma, they don't deal with the consequences...and what does that leave? Women taking the flack! It makes me sick. I feel like it should be mandatory that men are tested much more frequently than women...though there is no way of making this possible.
I'm swearing off sex for a good while. Not because I'm the problem but because they are! Have you ever noticed men don't like doctor's appointments either? My father hasn't had one in years. He doesn't like people "being in his business". And yet he always gets on me about taking care of myself. I don't even know if I would trust the guys that say "oh yeah I got tested". Oh really? PROVE IT! I am so sick of feeling like I'm the one that did wrong in this situation. In reality, my circumstance was almost inevitable given the statistics of today. I haven't found a solution for sexual fulfillment and physical health, but when I think of one, I'll share. For me, YES I'd much rather miss out on hot sex than become the victim of yet another man's blind and clueless sexual existence.
Another word of wisdom: the HPV vaccine should be taken with a grain of salt. I clearly remember the summer before I got HPV that my gyn all but taped me to the table to get one. I said no. Several months later? A number of girls died from it. I may have suffered through HPV in the end..but at least I'm still breathing. Something to think about!
Wow, thanks for the comment. I hadn't heard of girls dying from the vaccine, how long ago was that? I would think now that they're making it mandatory for teenage girls to get it that they've worked out those snafus...but maybe not. I'll do some more research on it.
Yes, I also have had warts in the past and had them burned off. It certainly wasn't a pleasant experience, but I don't remember it being so bad either. Then again, I have a pretty high pain threshold. Like you, though, it was more emotionally painful since I went to the doctor thinking it was just a herpes outbreak that wouldn't go away, and ended up finding out I actually had another STD. And that was only about 6 mos after I found out I had herpes...so I was pretty upset.
I sympathize with your frustrations with guys. I don't want to generalize, because I know there are a lot of responsible men out there, but I do find that the guys I know do tend to get tested less than the women I know. They also don't seem to think that STDs are a big deal. I've asked multiple ex-partners to be tested for herpes so that I can know whether I've ever passed it on to them, and they just won't do it either out of laziness or because they think that since they don't have symptoms that means they don't have it. Even though I've explained to them that's not the case. It's weird. Sigh...what can we do?
Maybe men just want to live and have their fun and not think about it. I mean as long as they aren't suffering, why live with the fear? Ignorance is bliss. *sigh* Anyway, yeah, it's pretty scary that people have died and I think shortly after the commercials disappeared from TV. I don't know if there's been any deaths of older women..but still..if someone is dying in general from it, that is a concern.
