Giving Herpes a Hand

One issue that seems fuzzy to a lot of us who have herpes is whether it can be transmitted to or by hands.  It’s an important question, since the hand is one part of the body that never gets protected during safe sex.  (Hand condoms?  For some reason I just don’t think it...

I have recently found out that I have herpes and your comment on transmittion made me think of whether it can be transmitted whilst bathing with a partner or child!

Is this a possibility either when shedding or having symptoms?

I cant believe it but I acquired it from simply handshaking another individual--stranger.  Prior to the day before my hand was itching so i scratched it and scraped off the top layer of skin..nothing major... a few days later as the scratch was healing an individual approached me and I shook his hand.  I didnt wash my hands right away as i dont have a phobia for germs... like i do now... anyway later that eve... my hand starting really itching and within hours i thought it was staph. Culture was taken and its herpes.  I cannot believe it... and I have a strong, strong immune... just beware and void those others who say you can't get it from a handshake....

I think you need to retrace your steps. most likely the itch you felt before you shook his hand was prodrome symtoms. There are different prodrome symtoms for people. usually the itching starts first, then redness, then the blisters. the symptoms show up in 2 - 14 days afterward. so more then likely u got it 2 to 14days before you shook his hand or had it already never knew it and just had another outbreak.
