Circumcision and STDs

In recent news, researchers from Uganda and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine have found an interesting correlation between circumcision and STDs.  After previously discovering that the rate of HIV infection dramatically decreased for the almost 2,000 Ugandan men – from a random group...

What about the US study that found the only indicator of HPV was number of sex partners and that circ status did not affect the chance of getting HPV?  There are other western world studies (2nd New Zealand Study).

How can you opine that there are more reasons to get circumcised thatn not?  What about the loss of the main male peasure zones?  The parts removed have fine touch and stretch sensors that are fully lost by the cut.  Why is this never  mentioned.  For me this is much more significant than minor risk stats that don't match western world data.

Thank you, Penelope, for defending, somewhat, males against deformation by Govt fiat, as well as being opposed to female deformation. However, the CDC is pursuing male cirucumcision according to a CDC report I just read (link at drudge).

Also, expectant fathers, as well as expectant mothers should be properly informed about both male and female circumcision, as both should be considered as medical procedures as I assume that female circumcision may have some impact on STD's, also.

Thank you Javk for your comments - much needed, and appreciated.

There are arguments on both sides for circumcision, but I in no way condone male circumcision.  I am a woman, but I have been intimate with several men, both circumcised and uncircumcised, and none of them were profoundly affected by their parents'/culture's decision regarding their circumcision.  They all seemed to enjoy sex equally as much, and no one complained nor cared either way about the skin on their penises.  So on this topic, I think each parent should have a choice.

However, female circumcision is a different story.  It is often done when the girl is much older, often with improper tools, and can sometimes lead to infection or bleeding to death.  Rather than foreskin, the actual female genital is cut, so it does not reduce the risk of contracting STDs.  It is dangerous and I am very much against the practice.
