Feeling Totally DOWN!

The last time I has sexual relations was in 1988, Yes 1988. I didn't start to have symptoms until 4/06. I had a swab test done and it came back negative however, I kept getting a sore in my vaginal. Finally by Gyno did a blood test that came back positive for HSV2 I was just told on 10/1/09. I cannot stop crying and I feel sick to my stomach. I am so ashamed. I don't know what type of doctors take care of people like me. My Gyno was very rude and told me to do reasearch on the internet and call her back with any questions I had. If I am rambling it due to the fact I am totally lost. Please pray for me!

Do not beat yourself up over this. It's more common than you think. Do some research. I found that it also helped me to read how other people cope with it. Also, it's gets better with time. Stress is a big factor in outbreaks. You must try to live your life a normal as possible taking extra special precautions during your outbreaks. I have had it for 3 years now and most of the time I completely forget I have it. Be well and take care.

Do some research on anti-viral drugs. Depending on how often you break out, you may want to ask your Dr. to put you on suppressive therapy. Many people never break out again... or very infrequently. But if you are seeing this "pop" out 6 times or more a year then it might be worth the $ and time (remembering to take the pills) to see if you can put the virus to rest! It also would reduce your chances of transmission if you are sexually active (although I would always use a condom... there are things worse than herpes out there!). Acyclovir is cheap (especially with ins) and from my research.... very safe.....

You just got this news..... it is very traumatic at first..... but once you get used to the idea.... and realize that for most people it will not reoccur often... but if it does there are medications to help. Good luck.... and consider changing Doctors! You need to feel comfortable asking questions and getting support. It can make all the difference.
