Its not really an std you can get it from lots of unsexuall behaviour such as sharing drinks or inoccent kissing like kissing your mom.

It's an std if he caught it from cheating though.  You can also get HIV from non-sexual contact such as sharing needles... however, it's an STD if you get it from having sex, no?  I don't understand your logic.  Why do people try to lessen the stigma of HSV-1 and not HSV-2.  They're both the same really!  It's just that most Americans are exposed to HSV-1 at an early age, so they get that.  Her husband had the infection on his genitals. Whether it be HSV-1 or HSV-2, it's still GENITAL HERPES. And he gave it to her.

Over half of the population carry hsv1.  You could have caught it from kissing him on the lips and he was just asymptomatic at the time (the virus sheds 18% of the time whether there are cold sores present or not).  I was concerned that I may have caught herpes down below after my boyfriend performed oral sex on me.  The only way to confirm hsv1 genitally is to have the doctor culture a lesion.  A blood test simply states that you have been exposed to the virus, but does not specify where (mouth or genitals).  My doctor said not to worry about it.  It is hsv1 and not an std (as is type 2).  He told me I did not even have to share the information with future partners, as most people have an immunity to it as they caught it in childhood.  Does this help?
