What Should I Do?

By ABrown Friday, September 14, 2007
I went to my doctor in August and got tested for STD's she said i had been exposed to herpes but I didn't have it and I need to come back in 3 months to get retested, I didn't panic because she said it was a negitive reading but i had antibodies. I've never read about herpes or have known anyone to have it. Then I went to the doctor to get results and to get checked again because i was having symptoms that I thought might be an STD. I took the urine test and i was clear for Chlamyida and Gonorrhea which I was very happy about. When I went to the doctor this time i had a different doctor I had never been to before and she told me that I do have herpes but they don't know what type. They said I have to wait 3 months to get retested or wait until I have a break out to find out. I want to know if i should go see a different doctor. I've had 2 doctors in the same office tell me 2 different things and I'm not sure which one I should believe. I've never been with someone who has sores or cold sores and I'm very uneducated about herpes. i just need answers on my chances of having this. I want to know why type I might have if i do have it. Is there another test I can ask to be taken to find out more?

In the meantime, you can read our Symptoms Guide to see if you recognize any of your own symptoms there. YOu can also visit What Does Genital Herpes Look Like?- a guide to symptoms and how to talk to your doctor, among other advice.

I hope this helps, and I'll let you know what I hear from our experts.
