Spreading HSV-1

By Concerned in NY Sunday, June 01, 2008

Hi,

I was diagnosed with HSV-1 in my anal area. Can I spread HSV-1 to my partner from regular and/or oral sex. Does the person need to come in contact with a sore/lession from the anal area or can they get from touching any part of my genital area?

I am concerned and have not had sex in 5 months because I am afraid of spreading this virus

Please let me know what is what?

Thanks

i read you don't have to have an outbreak to pass the virus to your partner. I thinks that's what concerns me the most. Theres a shedding phase it goes through and when it does theres no symptoms and thats how it could be easily passed to your partner! You just keep reading other peoples questions and answers very very helpful. good lHi Concerned i was in your situation a week ago so im pretty new to this to but from what uck!

If it is in your anal area honey it is HSV 2 not HSV 1. you need to educate yourself a little better

Thats so not true.  Mine is on the anal area and I have HSV-1- meaning I contracted it from oral sex from someone who had HSV-1.  Please educate yourself and don't slam others.

yes you are correct, I went a year thinking I had HSV 2 because it was in  the genital area, only to find out after blood work that it is HSV 1, and my understanding is that because it is HSV 1 it is less likely to spread when you do not have an outbreak, in other words shedding in between outbreaks is less of a problem for those with HSV 1.

yes i too have just been tested for the same issues and i have HSV1 not 2 and the sores are around my anus, i had shingles last year which is app the same strain. so you can get genital/ anal herpes which is not HSV2!!

HSV-1 can be transmitted to the gental area. Although rare it can be if u recieve oral sex from someone who has HSV-1 orally while they preform oral sex.
