Pain and tingling with no outbreak?

By Tonton Saturday, January 26, 2008

I was visually diagnosed with herpes (probably type 2) 11 years ago.  The swab was contaminated and was the only swab left at either hosptial in my city, so I've never had an actual positive result.  I have never had another outbreak in 11 years, but often experience tenderness, itchiness and sharp, stabbing pains in my genital area, but on the left side only.  Recently, I have begun having this stabbing pain on the left side of my vulva, along with aching, throbbing pain in my left arm, shoulder, hip, legs etc. right down into my foot along with severe headaches, and sharp, stabbing pains in my stomach (similar to menstrual cramps-in the same area, only with stabbing pain along with the cramping).  These symptoms are especially severe when I'm menstruating (which has only recently re-started after being on Depo-Provera for almost 10 years which stopped my menstrual periods).

I'm just wondering if this is typical, if anyone else has had a similar experience or symptoms or if this could be something other than herpes simplex.  Since I've never had another outbreak, I've never had the opportunity to be retested, so I'm not sure what is going on.  This pain is becoming more frequent and almost debilitating some days, which affects my sex life as well as my work life.  Any advice or similar experiences would be helpful.

I was just yesterday diagnosed with genital herpies, they diagnosed me by just looking at the sore's they sent away the swab to the lab but havent heard anything yet.

I thought that maybe they could have been wrong because in the past i had those same symptoms, the pain on one side all of that, just what you had discribed, and i did not get a sore, but now hearing this i know now that, that is probubly it, this site has been very helpful to me.

thank you!

Hi and thanks so much for writing. My name is MK and I am the producer for herpesconnection.com. I am not a certified health professional, so I cannot answer your questions specifically. However, I can direct you to information on this site that could help.

Please check out our Symptoms page, which addresses vaginal pain in addition to visual symptoms of herpes. If what you see on this page doesn't confirm for you that you have herpes, check out Dr. Charlotts Grayson's blogs Is It Herpes, Or Another STD? an Is It Herpes, Or Something Else?

These posts describe the symptoms of other STDs and non-sexually transmitted diseases.

Of course, seeing a doctor is never a bad idea, especially if you keep having these pains!

I hope this helps,

MK

When I had my first outbreak 6 months ago, I also felt the sharp jarbs of pain around my vulva and also down my right let. I had never felt that type of pain before. My left leg also was somewhat numb from my knee down. Even though my doctor said one has nothing to do with the other, I don't think that she is right (Doctor's are not gods and don't know everything). The herpes virus has to do with our nerves .... I believe that the sharp stabbing pain has to do with the virus being in our nerves.

Newly diagnosed with herpes I'm a female in US, 37 years of age. I was diagnosed on Aug 12, 2007. I've been deeply depressed and ashamed. I don't have anyone to talk to and I havent let any of them know or family i would really appreciate someone to talk to on a one on one basis. I have found some really informative information on all the websites I searched but it just hasn't been enough. I really need someone in same boat to talk. I'm sorry for rattling but I need support desperately.

But recently, I found my herpes mate on http://herpesmates.com which it is a cool site for std people to talk, share expericen, find love and friends.

You will be OK, my dear.

I was diagnosed on my birthday this summer! Bummer.

Personally, I don't think it is any of my family's business...would just upset them and they attach a stigma...

Truly, it's no ones business except for you and whoever you have sex with. It's hard the first time to share such a thing (as it is important you share it BEFORE you get your clothes off.)

I was really depressed and ashamed...so I told a couple of my closest friends...one of them had it too, and the other one had a partner with it! Neither had every told me!

I got braver, told another close friend....as it turned out...lot's of people I know either had hsv 1 or 2... then, I went and did herpes online dating (personally, i think all online dating sucks, but this one was the best)....

I finally met so many normal people with it, that I felt better.

Stress and immune function are very important in the management of this virus...please release your shame, you are in good company.

Hi, I just found out on Thursday that I have Herpes also. I just had my 25th with my husband and 2 years ago I thought he was seeing someone and of course he said I was crazy. Guess I wasn't. My first outbreak was 2 weeks after I spoke to him and I just had another and went to a Dr. 2 years later. I just didn't think I had it. Well I could get really depressed or just be thankful it isn't worse. I am 56 and he is 63, It can happen anytime to anyone. My husband is getting checked on Wednesday. If he has it and I no he will, he better get a good lawyer. I am a teacher, and never thought this would happen to me, but I will be fine and as I said it could be worse. good luck,

I was also diagnosed with HSV 2, visually, but mine was also confirmed. I only had one other out break (sore was about the size of a tiny razor cut)...but usually, just before my period every couple months, I get a sore low back (seperate from the soreness of cramps) and a nervy tingling down the top of my right thigh. I also havn't got much info. But it seems like when I dose higher on L-lysine (important to take this amino if you have hsv2) It seems to take the pain away eventually (ususally later that same day.) Also, these symptoms seem to come with a general malaise and depression not normal for me....

Would love to hear some thoughts

I went to get checked, I have yet to have an outbreak, they diagnosed me visually with a form of HPV, I had a tiny wart which they applied acid too. The wart came off the skin was irritated and I was left with a glossy white film of residue.

Later on a follow up, a nurse made a comment about it looking like genital herpes. I had never experienced any pain, even when the nurse was touching it with latex gloves, I did not experience pain.

I was not aware that i could possible have herpes, and had not been taking the proper steps to ensure it doesn't spread to other parts of my body at first. I am feeling tingling, and random skin abnormalities, maybe I am just freaking out but i think i have contracted this virus.  Judging from what i've wrote, do you all believe i have contracted hvs-2?

I was married for 20yrs with 4 children and I began to think my wife was cheating. Well I was right. She caught herpes from the sorry SOB and now I have it! I divorced the tramp have custody of my last remaining minor daughter etc.. but the hate and anger continue. I was tested and she was not. She knew she had it she later admitted but it was too late for me. Now I have the feeling that basically my life is over so far as ever meeting someone and actually getting into a normal "healthy" relationship. I have dated but have chosen to abstain from sexual contact with anyone. Now my ex is running like the tramp she is and when I see her with her latest victim I just smile. The new Typhoid Mary I call her. What it all boils down to is that I don't think that in this day and age you can tell anyone anything about you and expect an adult response especially that you have Herpes. I'm 43 and I think I'll probably grow old alone wondering how I could have changed it all. It's ashame that more young  people don't look around them and see how devastating their actions can be on their future. Me? Well I guess I'm just one of the "Lucky" old guys who was married to a well versed "TRAMP"!

you know.....

I just got diagnosed, and I'm devestated, and all that stuff.  I'm 39, alway thought I was somewhat careful, etc...

I was married, and from the looks of it, I got it from my husband, who got it years before from some girlfriend...

Because so few people get tested, it's possible your wife had it long before you met her and didn't know.

Maybe she's a whore, ok, but to assume it's from some guy she cheated with isn't necessarily so.

Over 75% of sexually active adults have herpes.  Wow, that's a big number and many don't have a clue because, like me, they never had an outbreak.

Move on, you'll meet someone.... when you forgive her and get over it.

She probably cheated for a reason... your marriage wasn't working big deal... move on.
