I am in the medical field and I have GH..I recently found out 3 mos ago.It was very devastating for me to find this out. I understand this virus is not reportable. I personally do not feel that you should not be in the Health field. You should not give up on your dream..But I do feel you should practice universal precautions at all times, and you should pick your job or assignments carefully..Whether you have GH or not everyone should follow universal precautions..Because, you can always pick up something you dont have (Keep in mind, we people with GH can cause ourselves more harm by picking up more diseases..Think immune system here..ours is affected) or unwillingllly give someone what we have, and what we think we dont have.
However, due to the stigma and people's judgement..I would advise you not to report this to your employer or co workers. I dont feel it is their business to know this, and some people may freak out. As GH is mainly sexually transmitted, but can be transmitted by people not using good hygiene with their personal items or own habits, your main concern would be to practice good handwashing and good hygiene when using the public restroom(Clean up after yourself and try not to pick up any other germs in the process)..This is more a common sense thing..Most of us would never leave urine or rub our genitals on the toilet seats or contaminate objects with our dirty hands..But hey, just in case..I advise people to clean up the toilet seat and use toilet seat covers also.P.S. Never share washcloths, towels, and personal items. Keep your personal items out of reach from people who may use them unknowingly. Look at it, as if you can catch something from people also.I would advise you wash your hands before and after going to the restroom, before and after handling patients, wear gloves when handling people for procedures, handling bodily fluids, fecal matter, blood. For peoples protection and your own, as your immune system can be delicate and you can catch whatever they have..Concentrate on strenghtening your immune system getting enough sleep, eating well, to battle any germs or viruses that you come in contact with.
P.S. If your job exposes you to patients who may have contagious diseases who need to be in isolation..I would suggest you wear a protective gown, mask, and gloves..Minimize contact with patients in isolation if you can. There are some Health Care jobs that are more riskier than others, and it will be up to you as to how much exposure you want to put your body thru, or whether you think it would be wise to take on a certain assignment.
