Does stress lead to outbreaks?

By WorriedFriend Friday, February 09, 2007
Is it true that higher stress levels can lead to an increased incidence of herpes outbreaks? I am worried about a friend of mine who has just started law school and has been frequently suffering painful outbreaks. Could stress have anything to do with this?

Herpes, be it genital or oral, is a type of illness that manifests itself periodically in the form of outbreaks.

Among the causes leading to an outbreak, stress is the most likely. Of course, there are other factors to consider, such as dietary or weather, etc, but stress is the most obvious of them all.
