Diagnosed with HSV1 (cold sore on lip) possibly transferred accidentally to genital

By Paula Monday, May 09, 2011

A week ago I had my first cold sore on my lip and got Valtrex pills and the prescription ointment Zovirax. My lip has been healing nicely (crusted yellow the crust fell off and it is now just a flat red spot on my lip), but on Saturday night I accidentally touched the sore and touched down below. As soon as I realized I washed the area with hot water and dove body wash. The next day my vagina was itchy and a bit in pain. Today I began experiencing pain after I urinate, so I went to get checked for the a UTI and the results came back negative but they said I could take the medicine anyways. I also went in for STD testing so they could actually examine the area. The Dr. said that although the area was a bit irritated she did not see any sores of any kind. I put Vagisil cream on the area and it seems to have eased the itching a lot. Is it possible that I did transfer the HSV1 infection from my lip to my genital area and noticed itching/burning symptoms as soon as the next day? If so how soon will the sores show?
