I just have some advice

By dp2007 Thursday, November 29, 2007
I have had herpes for about 5 years now. I contracted it from my husband, who at the time was the only person I had slept with. After learning I had it, he confessed to cheating on me numerous times. We divorced, which was hard because now I had to tell my potential partners my situation. which is my advice. Always tell. don't be too embarrassed. it's their loss if they reject you.

i'm kind of new to this whole thing (diagnosed a year ago) and i feel like there are so many ups and downs with my confidence about dealing with others when they find out and all of that. is there something that you keep in mind to try to stay positive about it all?

well, I still have the confidence problems, but since my divorce every guy I have told has been ok with my situation. I try to keep in mind that I just have a simple virus, no biggie. I also practice every precaution to keep my partners safe. What worries us who have to deal with this, is the stigma that goes along with having the virus. But just keep in mind that lots of people have it too. Since being diagnosed I have found out that 4 of my friends have it too! It helps to have someone to talk to openly about it. And keep in mind that you SHOUlD NOT let this define you. You are the same person as you were before the diagnosis. I'm still fabulous, LOL. Just now more careful. And if my potential partners can't see past the virus, shame on them. Good luck
