Saturday, February 02, 2008 at 01:14 PMI posted some of the same questions and have not gotten any response from a source that has accurate information. I'm confused as well since I have NEVER had a sore or lesion and never had a breakout. I tested positive for herpes with a blood test. I am also curious about oral sex (giving or receiving) and when or how I could possibly pass the virus to someone else. -

Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 08:52 AMFrom what I have read and understand you can pass HSV 1 or 2 when an infected area touches an unifected area mouth or genitals. So if you don't have it in your mouth then you can give oral sex to someone without passing it. Since I found out I was infected I haven't done either which sucks but it is better than passing it to someone I care about. If you want to do oral I would say have the male wear a condom and the female use some sort of barrier atleast. The alernative could be going to family get togethers with HSV2 outbreak on your face(less than desired). Sex lasts a little while, HSV is forever.

Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 01:16 PMI have read that 1 is usually herpes of the mouth and 2 usually the genitals. Something like 80 or 90% of the population has oral herpes. Most got it in childhood and it lies dormant still in their system. It is rare that it will pass to the genitals, but not vice versa. Also, something called 'viral shedding' is when there are no lesions or sores, but it is still active in your mouth or genitals and can be easily passed. I wonder if there is a test to find out cycles of shedding... Then we could at least set up some kind of schedule. I still need lovin! -

Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 07:01 PMIf you have genital herpes you can not pass it to someone else by kissing or giving oral sex. Only by intercourse, but by taking Valtrex daily it will definitely help reduce the chances of spreading the disease thru intercourse. Your partner should use condoms or realize that their taking a chance in getting it themselves.
