Question about contracting hsv2

By Dazzlegirl Saturday, October 08, 2011

Okay... I recently accidentally used a razor that a girlfriend used.

I know I should have thrown out the blade but I forgot. She never mentioned an STD to me so i gave her a new blade. I was stressed

one morning and in a hurry so without thinking I used the razor .

2 days later after my partner and I had sex he had an outbreak. We

went to the local health dept. They couldnt get his blood so they just swabbed the sore ... At the timeI was pregnant so they wouldnt examine me. The culture came back + for HSV2 they gave him valtrex still i have not noticed any outbreak on myself. I just went to my obgyn for an exam after misscarrying. she didnt mention any sores I was in a hurry for a courtdate so i never brought it up. Now we were intimate a few days ago he has been sick a cold for 3 weeks so his immunity is low

Could I be an asymptomatic carrier for HSV 2 since i have not noticed an outbreak?  What test should i ask for ? HSV2 antibody?  Also could  I have contracted it through that razor???I'm confused ....Please help

First of all, you cannot get herpes or any STD from a previously used razor; only through skin to skin contact in the genital areas. It is possible you can by asymptomatic and a blood test will confirm that. Ask your doctor. If you test negative then, your partner may have recently had sexual relations with another partner. Someone recently infected (with or without symptoms, condom or no condom, antiviral drug or no antiviral drug) is very contagious especially in the first year. DO NOT have sexual relations with this person until you get your blood results back and confirm whether or not you are a carrier for herpes. If you have sexual relations, remember condoms are 30% effective and antiviral drugs are 49% effective.
