I have been taking valtrex religiously ever since my 1st out break (it was horrible). However, since then I've only had two-three noticeable outbreaks, which have been mild and have cleared up quickly. I have only had one partner since my infection and we haven't been too sexually active because of my fear of spreading the disease. Recently we have had intercourse and oral sex, at a time in which I wasn't experiencing any normal symptoms (such as boils, sores or that tingling feeling) but I had just finished my period, which is when symptoms have occurred for me in the past once. I did notice some redness around my vaginal area, but it was only like skin irritation; I've felt this discomfort before due to the panty liners I use during my cycle, but we've never had sex after my periods. There were no sores open or closed, or abrasion; just slight irritation around my outer vaginal area.  My partner and I always use condoms and are extremely cautious during and after oral sex (we rinse with germ killers and brush, then shower immediately). Now we have had intercourse after and outbreak has healed once, and there were no problems. There were no open sores or abrasion of any kind and I felt safe, but I am still very nervous about this time. Could he be infected?

Hi, my name is reds and I sometimes wonder if the meds works at all. Even though I just found out last thursday that I had it for 12-13 years is crazy as h***. Maybe it is a pyscialogoical thing because before I found out i just thought it was a bad bacteria infection and that's what the doctor's diagnosed me with but now that I know what I have these out breaks this week were unbareable and painful. So i ask if you are taking the meds during the week before your period you only can spread the virus to your parthner if you are experiencing an outbreak. Like I said, i am new to this and still learning so if you have any helpful info to share be more then welcome to share.

Unfortunately I was raped and contracted this from the guy, but be grateful you have a partner that will stand by you with this.  Enjoy your time with him and forget, well you never forget,  but don't worry so much about things.  Just don't do anything while the sores are present.  I researched and called everyone I know that is an expert on this and he will be fine, if he contracts it you were honest and have nothing to feel bad or guilty about.   My boyfriend couldn't take it and left me to deal with this alone.   You are a very lucky person to have such great and loving support, so enjoy it!
