I am currently dating someone who has genital herpes. Her and i have had unprotected sex several times before. however, she says that she didn't have outbreaks each time. i'm a very paranoid person. i found a read bump down there a few days later and started freaking out. and then she performed oral sex afterwards. i fear that if i did contract the virus that she might have contracted it oraly as well. can someone PLEASE help me out here. i feel like i'm going to have a heart attack.

Men are four times less likely to contract HSV, so you have that going for you. Are you sure the red bump wasn't razor burn from shaving? Very likely. If it were an outbreak, it would look like a cold sore, not a bump. Also, not possible for her to contract it orally unless you a) have it b) you have an outbreak (mostly). She won't get it from *herself* by having had sex with you and then performing oral.

Chances are pretty high that you're okay.

Paul, if you get anxious easily, then I would suggest that you go to the urologist to get a blood test to make sure you are ok.  Also, you shouldnt be having unprotected sex without a condom because if she is not on a retroviral suppressive therapy its like playing with fire.  I have it and I am on a daily retroviral 1gram dosage of valtrex.  Also, even if she is on a suppressive you should still use condoms for now because of other types of sexually transmitted diseases.  If she has it and you had unprotected sex and lets say you did get it, then the virus gets innoculated or worse in each other if you guys don't use condoms.  So just use condoms and go get checked out just in case. Now if you really like her, then stick with her. You just have to pratice safe sex.
