Genital Herpes from Oral Sex?

Can I get genital herpes by having oral sex with a partner who is not showing symptoms?   Because we know that people with genital herpes often shed the virus even when they don’t have any disease activity, technically, they can spread the virus by allowing a non-infected partner to perf...

yes, you can spread it to your partner. The virus can be transmitted to your partner if you have active genital herpes and have vaginal or anal intercourse. http://www.positivesingles.com/blog/hgirlemily

I think you both missed the point of the question.  No, you cannot get genital herpes by giving oral sex to a person who has genital herpes.  Herpes is not a disease that exists in the blood or other bodily fluids.  It is a virus that is transmitted by direct contact.  Your genitals would have to come in contact with the virus for you to get it genitally.  Whether you contract the virus around your mouth is another issue.

Someone I dated two years ago called me to tell me he has genital herpes. I have had a couple of cold sores but no sign of genital herpes. I have scheduled a doctor's appointment for next week but I was wondering if anyone else has gone this long ( 2 years) without any symptoms but was tested positive for HV 2 virus.

If you have cold sores then you have herpes. herpes comes in two different strained oral and genital. spreading herpes from oral to genital is possible. so you MAY have given him herpes with your cold sores.

  • Symptoms - Small, painful blisters or open sores. After they ooze, they'll scab and then heal within one to three weeks.
  • For women, sores may appear in the vagina, on the outside genital area, cervix, anus, or rear end. For men, sores may appear on the penis, scrotum, rear end, anus, thighs, or inside the urethra.
  • Along with an outbreak of sores, a person may have flu-like symptoms including headache, muscle aches, and fever.
  • Complications - Herpes will not cause death, but it can increase your risk of contracting other STIs such as Chlamydia, gonorrhea, or HIV.
  • A pregnant woman with sores can pass genital herpes on to her baby during delivery, which could cause brain damage, blindness, or death to the newborn. In this case, a C-section is usually performed.

Sweetie, your life is not ruined and it may not even be as bad as you think. I was diagnosed when I was 20 after oral sex with my boyfriend of 4 years and only my second sexual partner. I, like you thought my life was over and couldn't imagine how I would cope.I am now 32 and have never had another outbreak since then. I take 2-3 L-Lysine tablets a day (or as close to every day as I remember!) just in case it comes back but it never has. I probably shouldn't say this but I actually had two sexual partners and didn't even tell them. I still know them and they have not developed the infection. I have told the partner I am with now and he doesn't care. He knows I would tell him if I had an outbreak and not sleep with him. You can buy Lysine in health food shops and online. It is used to combat recurrent viruses especially herpes. No one will know what you are buying it for as it can be used for cold sore prevention and just as a food supplement (as it is an amino acid).  It might not be perfect but it might not be as bad as you think. Good luck x x

So you found that Lysine works for you? Do you take any anti-viral meds with it? I only take Valtrex when i find that I'm having an outbreak. Since I'm not in a physical relationship, I figure I don't need to take it every day.

Recently when I thought i was going to get physical, I started taking valtrex like 10days prior to my trip with this partner and for some reason I felt like taking the meds caused me to have a mild outbreak...or maybe it was the stress of thinking about getting physical. Anyway I was pissed because I was FINE until i decided to take the valtrex for suppression. So frustrating.

I def am skeptical about valtrex. It calms down my potential outbreaks but I don't trust it for suppression.  I think sometimes it add a slow constant fuel to the fire so you get psyched and just keep taking it giving more $$$ to our bff in the pharma world.

Long story short, I just wanted more info on the Lysin approach from anyone.

Thanks for reading. :)

Also, any advice on how/when to tell a new partner about this lovely gift that keeps on giving?
