need advice

By newguy Friday, November 09, 2007

i just found out I have herpes and am having my first outbreak.  I have swollen glands, feel like I have the flu and sores on the base of my penis.

I do not know how I got herpes.  I last had sex on Nov 2nd with my partner.  I got sores on Monday 5 /6.  Is it possible that my current partner did not give me herpes?  What is the chance that I have had herpies and just never had an outbreak?  If my current partner did not give me herpes that it would be a year since I have sex with anyone else.

Would it be common for it to just sit dormant and my outbreak 3-4 days after sex with my partner just bad timing

does it have to be painful

Thanks so much for your post.

Just to note, I am a contributor for the online community here.  I am not however a health professional or medically trained, so I cannot answer your questions in that regard.   I can however direct you to resources on our site that could help or lead you in the right direction.

Clearly one of the first things you should do is consult a physician.  Its always best to seek professional help for these kinds of issues.  And your doctor can answer these questions for you as a medically trained professional. You can use our locator to find a doctor if you need to.

In the meantime you could look at the information we have online about this disease.  The Just Diagnosed and Basics of Genital Herpes can help you to understand the disease. Its really important to get treatment as soon as possible.  It can help in some cases to limit future outbreaks.

I hope this helps.  Good Luck.

All the Best, SMM
