We both have genital herpes

By livenlrge Saturday, February 23, 2008
I was just diagnosed as having the anti-bodies for genital herpes. I only experienced an "outbreak" once in my life about 35 years ago (I am 50) so I am not even sure if that is what I experienced at the time as I was so young. I can only remember that I was miserable for awhile. Once it was gone I forgot about it until recently when the man I have been with got infected with genital herpes and had a major outbreak. We want to be together but do not want to infect any other areas of our bodies.  I know that the anti-bodies protect us fron re-infecting each other, but does it protect us in so far as oral sex is concerned? Should we avoid oral sex at this point?

Hi Livenlrge, my name is Camilo and I am monitoring this Sharepost Community. First of all let me thank you for posting on our community. Although I am not a healthcare practitioner and thus cannot offer you any professional advice, I can try my best to direct to some helpful sections in our site that you may find helpful in answering your questions. If I understood your post correctly, it seems that both you and your husband have already been positively diagnosed with the virus together. That is great that both of you have already taken this essential step to dealing with the virus. So whats next? from your post it seems that your main concern is an issue of transmission. Check out the following article links written by our medical expert, Dr. Grayson. I think that you will find them very helpful in answering most of the questions you have about the transmission of the virus ranging from oral sex to transmission by an inanimate object. I also added a link to our site with suggestions on how to practice safe sex.

1. Transmitting Herpes: How to Protect the ones you love.

2. What to do when your partner is diagnosed.

3. Genital herpes from oral sex?

Lastly I would like to direct you to an article that may put your curiosity at ease regarding the latency (lack or symptoms for a long period of time) of your infection -- What are the symptoms of herpes and when should you expect them?

Please post again with any other comments or questions you may have, and don't forget to consult your physician before adopting any new knowledge into practice!
