Wow, where to start?? I have been married for a long time. Several years ago I had gastric bypass weight loss surgery and lost 150 lbs. I also began a relationship with a younger hispanic female. I was having infrequent sex with my wife and frequent sex with my GF. The realtionship with the GF was not open and neither of us were supposed to be seeing others. We were together 3 years before we stopped using condoms. About 2 years ago my wife presents genital herpes and has an outbreak about every 2 months or more frequently when under stress. She takes valtrex and it clears in a few days. We do not have sex during her outbreaks. Now of course this means I'm busted and someone hasn't been totally honest with the other. I suspect my girfriend was with someone else and contracted herpes. Although, I have never noticed or known her to have any outbreaks she does get an occaisional cold sore and once had valtrex prescribed to clear it up. After my wife informed me of what happened, I had an HSV 1 / 2 blood test and had an antibody level of 39 with +1 being positive. The thing is that the only one that has ever had a lesion or physical symptom is my wife. I've never had a lesion, bump, blister, pain urinating or any other unusual event. With a combined test, I don't know if I have type 1 or 2. I also have no idea what I should or should not do to avoid tranmitting it to another person. With no outbreaks at all, can I safely give and/or receive oral sex (yes I understand about safe sex) . I'm looking for probabilities like If I give oral sex the chance of transmitting herpes is 1/500 etc Some of the posts I have read seem to show that there is a lot of confusion about HSV 1 and 2 and transmission. Can anyone provide better documented information??
What can you do?
