Recently Diagnosed With Herpes

By Sean50 Thursday, February 10, 2011

I was just diagnosed with genital herpes yesterday, and I'm really not sure how to deal with it yet. I'm 17 years old and am very active in sports and am going to a private college to play football next year. I have a really great future ahead of me and I am very worried about how this will affect me in future relationships. I have thought about it and I think I should abstain from sex, even though going through college while doing so will be extremely hard. I am needing some advice on what to do from here. Thanks

I have herpes and I am an engineer who works for the largest herpes dating and support site STDslove. com. I have to tell you a secret, you can choose not to believe me. But the truth is that this site has more than 650,000 members and about 80% members are good looking in my estimation.

Unfortunately, STD rates soar worldwide and most people with STDs don't even know that they have them. The government should grant more money for STD education to lower the rates of STD transmission.

Its gets easier with time. I know how hard it is at first. I found out 2 years ago I had the virus, and I fell apart. I thought my life was over. I knew I'd never have a relationship, never have sex again, and always be alone. After a few months, I slowly started to accept it. I finally started dating a guy, and I eventually told him. He responded very well, but after a month things went downhill. I was pretty upset about it because I knew it was due to herpes. A few months after that happen, I started dating another guy who is now my husband. When I told him I had herpes, it didn't matter to him one bit. He is still HSV 2 negative. The point is you don't have to refrain from sex your whole life. You will from now on have to have the "talk" with your new love interest before sexual contact. Everyone will react in a different way. You will have some that walk away, and you will have some that could care less. I rarely think about having herpes anymore. The only time it bothers me is when I have an outbreak which is rare since I'm taking daily antivirals. I know its hard right now for you, but it will get easier. I promise.
