Q: Is it possible to get a positive antibody test back (IgG) and not actually be infected with herpes?

I recently was diagnosed by my gyno with herpes.  I was blown away as I have never had anything close to resemble an "outbreak."  She said this could happen b/c I already had antibodies for HSV1 (again, never even a cold sore, but I don't doubt I have that).  My only concern is that possibly I've been "exposed" to the virus, but that I haven't actually been infected.  I'm just wondering b/c can't people be exposed to other viral diseases (chicken pox, shingles, viral menengitis, etc.) produce antibodies that fight it off and NOT be infected?  I may be stretching, but I'm thinking that this would just make sense.  Everything I read says something about having some kind of itch, burn, bumps, yeast infection, etc-NOTHING ever happened "down there."  I did have the flu this year-which was weird-and thought that could have been the "outbreak"-but I'm not sure.  Again, I'm probably reaching and grasping at straws, but with all these new tests things seem to get a little confusing-even for the doctors.
