If you have genital herpes and you are not treated what happens? How long will it take for the symptoms to fade?

I would like to have this question answered too. Most times that I have had bad break outs I will use medicine for a couple of weeks but I can't afford more than that. I have paid $500 for a bottle of valtrex and the price makes me cry. The medicine makes me nautious, tired, lightheaded and dizzy. So I don't take it for very long. The breakout usually goes away in a few weeks.

Thanks.

The whole situation makes you cry.. It's the money that you spend and you don't see a cure... I have been taking Famvir and I haven't had serious side effects, almost nothing. I have also tried alternative medication. If I see any difference I'll let you know. Tons of vitamin c and L-lysine help they say, but these cost money too...

It can be hard going through the break outs because there is no one to talk to or understand what you are going through.

This is so true..

In the country that I live in -Greece- there's no psychological support for the disease. They just diagnose you, prescribe pills and then you are on your own. Their behaviour is as you had the flu or sth. And you can't tell no one about it.

I know and the doctors don't give you any information, they don't have time to be bothered and its like they feel like they are being burdened if they have to talk about it. I want to know more but even the websites don't have enough info. They say how its contracted, the symptoms and how its contagious. But I want to know more about the break outs and how to deal with them. And more details about how to deal with it in my relationship. Like the oral sex thing.

I guess that's the good thing about forums like these. You can talk to others who are going through it first hand. We all experience the same feelings at times, and yet somehow we all manage to live through it and cope. Open communication with partners and others whom you trust are the most important coping mechanisms I think.
