Q: Genital Herpes treatment and prevention? (No medical insurance)

Hello community.

I'm 24, Female.  I was diagnosed with HSV-2 last May.  I've had 4 outbreaks since the initial.  From what I've read, this is on the higher side of the spectrum.  I cannot afford to go on Valtrex daily.  What are my other options? (Note:  I've noticed they always occur a few days after the start of my period.  Possibly friction from a feminine napkin or tampon, but there's not much I can do about that.  They BOTH trigger outbreaks.)

I'm not sexually active, but these outbreaks really inconvenience/interrupt my life as they they are painful and stressful.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The good thing is that you know when and why your outbreaks come.

You need to boost your immune system. Lead healthier lifestyle (no alcohol, no smoking, no exsessive sun), pay attention to what you eat and drink, especially a week before your period (as far as it's your "trigger"), take vitamins, avoid caffeine, try  pads instead of tampons, at least  the first day of your period and wear cotton underwear. Try to avoid stress as well. You need to help your body to meet  and fight it. If it doesn't help (but I hope it will), do not stop searching for another ways. There is something that will help. I'm sure of it.

Your skin gets irritated due to friction and the skin should be clean, so I'm not sure about the pads. I think you can try to apply a little vaseline on the surface of the vagina while inserting tampons to avoid irritation.

Hello,

I don't have Health Insurance to pay for my medications either. My Nurse Practioner that I see told me of a program(where I live) called Planned Parenting, they base eligibility of your income and it's free to apply for. The program pays for my HSV-2 medications, contraception, birth control, etc... Maybe you have a program where u live that is like that that u could lookk into.

Hope this helped =)
