Q: I have a medium sized ulcerated herpes sore at the vaginal opening. How long will it take to heal?

I was recently diagnosed with Genital Herpes.  I am currently taking Valtrax 3 times a day but this sore does not seem to be healing.  The sore is located near my vaginal opening so it stays wet.  I have had this sore for approx. 12 days.  How much longer should I expect to have this sore?

Because the sore is on what we call mucosal tissue it may indeed take longer to heal.  I wouldhave it re-checked if it has not healed by the 2 week mark.  Your doctor may have some other recommendations for you.
