Herpes can lay dormat for years without you knowing you're infected. If you just gave birth, your doctor should have tested you before giving birth! When you have genital herpes, you cannot give birth vaginally because it may cause blindness for the infant while traveling through the birth canal. If it is Oral, they may have not found it prior to you giving birth. People can be infected by herpes and NEVER have ANY symptoms. It depends on the person.
