Q: Im male, and have hsv 1(oral) and hsv 2(genital) , my girlfriend has hsv 2(genital).

Is it possible to develop both types in the same location, say if i were to give my girlfriend oral sex. Would she be able to get hsv 1 on top of the hsv2? Or would I be at risk for getting hsv 2 orally on top of my hsv 1?

additional info: i am asymptomatic, my girlfriend occasionally has outbreaks.

I would say that from my research, you wouldn't necessarily know whether or not you had both viruses in the same area because the symptoms are pretty much the same.  That being said, reducing the risk of infection by abstinence during an outbreak is the best way to go.  The two viruses are easily transmitted from one place to the other, so you might want to reconsider having oral sex, or using some type of protective sheet over her vulva during the act can reduce the risk of infection.  Best to luck of you both.
