I was having vaginal burning and tested positive for HSV. The dr did the test where she couldn't tell if it was HSV 1 or 2. I started taking Valtrex as a suppressive therapy. A few weeks later I decided I wanted to know which HSV I had been exposed to and got tested while I was on the Valtrex for HSV 1 and 2. I turned up negative for both. Can the Valtrex have caused a negative result even though I may be positive?

I was having vaginal burning and was treated for a yeast infection. Still had symptoms so I was treated for bacterial vaginosis with Flagyl and then Penicillin. I was still having vaginal burning so was tested for HSV and tested positive (blood test) for HSV. The dr did the test where she couldn't tell if it was HSV 1 or 2. I started taking Valtrex as a suppressive therapy. About 4-5 weeks later I decided I wanted to know which HSV I had been exposed to and got tested again (another blood test) while I was on the Valtrex. This time I was tested individually for HSV 1 and 2. I turned up negative for both. The initial blood test turned up positive so the antibodies had been picked up on that blood test. My question is can the Valtrex have caused a negative result for both HSV 1 and 2 even though I am positive? I believe I am positive based on the initial positive blood test and my symptoms which have become practically a chronic condition despite my being on Valtrex daily. I have vaginal burning and no blisters. My anus (on the inside) gets really red and uncomfortable (painful) but no blisters. Would Valtrex keep HSV antibodies from showing up on a blood test? I do plan to get tested again for 1 and 2 but feel like I need to get off Valtrex to get an accurate result. I contacted the Valtrex company and they said it would take about 3 days for it to leave my system. I'm just afraid to get off of it because my symptoms seem to get even worse when I do. I am under severe stress and wonder if my symptoms will calm down if my stress level decreases. Thanks for your reply---appreciated any info.
